For 5 Mondays, from July 12-August 9, we'll take an innovative look at a different Jewish topic, presented by talented educators from across Philly.
This Week's Topic: Tisha B'Av
With Miriam Steinberg-Egeth, Jewish Graduate Student Network
Tonight is the start of the holiday of Tisha B'Av, traditionally considered the saddest day in the Jewish calendar. But what are we really mourning, and what relevance do these ancient tragedies have in 2010? Come explore these questions while also examining some of the traditional Tisha B'Av practices.
Dinner (felafel) will be served, wrapping up before the start of the fast.
Miriam Steinberg-Egeth is the director of Hillel's Jewish Graduate Student Network and a long-time teacher and learner. Every year, she makes sure to learn something new about Tisha B'Av.
