Followed by Dessert Reception and Book Signing

Dan Senor, Adjunct Senior Fellow for Middle East Studies at the Council on Foreign Relations, has served on the front lines of policy-making both in Washington and in the Middle East, holding senior positions in the White House and with the Coalition Provisional Authority in Iraq. He has studied in Israel and at Harvard Business School and has traveled extensively throughout the Arab world. A frequent contributor to The Wall Street Journal, Senor has also authored pieces for The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Weekly Standard and Time.

“Start-Up Nation,” which Senor co-authored with Saul Singer, addresses the trillion-dollar question: How is it that Israel – a country of 7.1 million, only 60 years old, surrounded by enemies, in a constant state of war since its founding, with no natural resources – produces more start-up companies than large, peaceful, and stable nations like Japan, China, India, South Korea, Canada, and the United Kingdom? How is it that Israel has more companies on the tech-oriented NASDAQ stock exchange than any country outside the United States – more than all of Europe, India, and China combined?

With the savvy of foreign policy insiders, Senor and Singer examine the lessons of Israel’s adversity-driven culture, and how it blends with a national ethos that flattens hierarchy and elevates informality, all backed up by unique government policies focused on innovation.
