Shadows in Paradise: Hitler's Exiles in Hollywood (2008) Shadows in Paradise is a fascinating documentary about the European Jewish intellectuals, artists, musicians, and writers who fled the Nazis and moved to Southern California in the 1930s and 40s. It's a peek into the American experience of people like Lion Feuchtwanger, Bertolt Brecht, Thomas Mann, Fritz Lang, Bruno Walter, Arnold Schoenberg, and many others.
The Brothers Warner (2008) The Brothers Warner is the true life rags-to-riches story of four ambitious brothers who changed Hollywood forever. Despite their sibling rivalries, the Warner brothers managed to flood the screen with their fabulous films from the twenties through the fifties. What's more, the granddaughter of Harry Warner, Cass Warner Sperling, wrote, directed and narrated this dazzling retrospective. Whether or not you remember the days of Casablanca, Rebel Without a Cause, and Bonnie and Clyde, we guarantee you'll love this film!
DISCUSSION (~9:00 pm) A post-film discussion with special guest speaker Jonathan Friedman, Director of Holocaust and Genocide Studies and Professor of History at West Chester University.
Tickets: $12 online in advance at https://www.gershmany.org/youngfriends.php
